Greetings Spartan Families!

It has been a busy few weeks at school. I apologize for the delay in publishing the weekly news. There are two big updates below from meetings I have attended with ADLA.
1. St. Sebastian Sports Project - I am proud to let you know that we are the proud recipients of a $1000 grant that will help offset the cost of admin, league, and officiating fees for CYO. Coach Eron and I attended the kick-off breakfast, and we are excited about the possibilities and opportunities this new partnership will bring to SMMAS students. Please read below for more information about this amazing organization.
2. School Volunteer Requirements (18+ years of Age) - As of July 1, 2026, California State mandates (SB 848)
that volunteers are required to take Mandated Reporter Training if they are going to be directly supervising students outside the immediate supervision of an employee or parent. In response, ADLA is providing a training opportunity for volunteers. Please be on the lookout for an email with specific information about the Mandated Reporter Training Course and school procedures for updating your volunteer information.

St. Sebastian Sports Project (SSSP)
We are excited to announce our partnership with the St. Sebastian Sports Project for the 2026-2027 school year. This amazing organization helps to provide financial support and resources that build quality team sports programs. In addition, this partnership allows us access and exposure to clinics that support both coach development and unique athletic experiences. SSSP hosts flag football, volleyball, basketball, and soccer tournaments. Other SSSP inititatives connect students to college experiences at Loyola Marymount University (LMU), University of Southern California (USC), and University of Los Angeles (UCLA).In May, two 8th-grade scholar-athletes will have the opportunity to attend the SSSP Leadership Academy, a program designed to help prepare students for the transition to high school.
The St. Sebastian Sports Project is changing lives, one game at a time!

On Monday,  I was so happy to announce the slogan for the 2026 Jogathon. This year, we received over 100 entries for the slogan contest! It is wonderful to see our students' spirit and their willingness to share it. It is the words of Zabella H. (1st) that will guide the vision and theme for this annual fundraising event:
"Running Together, God Shines Forever".

We will officially kick off this two-week fundraising event on October 23rd - stay tuned for more details!
