SMMAS Weekly News: August 31st - September 4th, 2026

Greetings Spartan Families!

Thank you, thank you for the wonderful spirit, cooperation, and energy you brought to the school last week as we opened our doors for the 2026-2027 school year. It was amazing to see so many families join us to wish their students well as they begin their new journey. Thank you to Mrs. Duarte, Mrs. Rico, Mr. Antiporda, Christian Service, Mr. Francisco, and all the parent helpers who gave their time and effort to make it a special day for all. From the balloon backdrop to the photo props, the parents' reception and the welcome back emails and letters, August 26th kicked off our year in great style! We are so glad you could be with us!

The Last "First Day" for the Class of 2027

And what a week it was! We were able to practice many procedures that happen throughout the year, including adapting to weather emergencies, altered pick-up procedures, and "Rainy Day" drop-off and pick-up. Congratulations everyone! Everything went as smoothly as it possibly could - and we all appreciate it! It was great to see so many of our families at Friday Mass too. You are always welcome!

Important Events next week:

School Picture Day is Thursday, September 10th, 2026 @ 8:00 am. Information was sent home on Friday. All students should wear their Mass Uniform (white shirts, with formal bottoms, and sweaters/vests/cardigans are optional). Please do not wear green or blue polo shirts on this day.
Back to School Night is Thursday, September 10th, 2026 for Grades 1-8 from 6-8 pm. Holy Name Society will be grilling hot dogs before the event. All families are asked to be in attendance - this is a great opportunity to learn how your students spend their days and what their year will be like. A complete schedule of the evening will be sent via email on Friday afternoon. (Note: Daycare will not be available this evening.)
Music Under the Stars is Friday, September 11th and Saturday, September 12th. This is the annual Parish Fundraiser, and we hope you can join us. Raffle Tickets are $25 each or 5 for $100 (Pay for 4 and get 1 free!). You can purchase tickets after Mass, at the Church office, and at the school office starting September 2, 2026. SMMAS will be hosting the Children's Area again! We will have an obstacle course jumper, an inflatable game station, a castle jumper, face-painting, games, and activities. The area will be supervised by SMMAS parent volunteers. Wristbands can be purchased through the school office - $40 for both nights OR $25 for one night. As per California State Law, all incoming 7th Graders must have their TDAP vaccine. Please provide a copy to the office before the start of the school year. SPARTAN ALLIANCE NEWS:

Due to overlapping meeting schedules, the next Spartan Alliance Meeting will be on Wednesday, September 23rd @ 6 pm in the St. Joseph Center. Please plan to join us!
Free Dress Passes for students whose parent attended the meeting on August 20th will be handed out tomorrow. These passes can be used on: Tuesday, September 8th, 2026.

Morning Recess & Lunch Updates

1. Grades TK - 1

Morning Recess is 9:30 - 10:00 am
Lunch is 12:00 - 12:30 pm (All students must be off tables to play by 12:20 pm to ensure they have the opportunity to get some movement in.)

2. New Schedule for Grades 2-8

Morning Recess is 10:00 - 10:20 am
Lunch is 12:20 pm - 1:00 pm (All students have 10 minutes of eating time and 30 minutes of play time. Students who need more eating time are allowed to sit at the benches.

3. Lunch Drop-off Procedures

Please ensure meals are dropped off for your student before their lunch break.
Use the Eshelman door to drop off food items for your child. They will be placed on the cart, and students will pick it up from there.
No outside vendors are allowed on campus. Please do not send food via DoorDash or Uber Eats; we will not accept the orders. Our first priority is keeping campus safe for all our students, staff, and faculty.

PARENT SERVICE OPPORTUNITY - Keep checking the Spartan Family Space (under the Parents tab) for volunteer opportunities. I will always send an email when new opportunities are posted. Thank you in advance for your support of our school!

REMINDER - all parent volunteers must be fingerprinted with ADLA and have current Virtus certification on file to give service with student activities. Check out Spartan Family Space page for more information. We will be hosting two Virtus classes this fall:

September 15 - Keeping the Promise Alive (Recertification Class)

October 15 - Protecting God's Children (Original Certification)
