Keeping Our Students Safe!

To ensure the safety, security, and well-being of all students, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles (ADLA) mandates that all adult volunteers (ages 18+) complete safe environment requirements before participating in activities involving students.

Volunteer Requirements Summary

1. VIRTUS® Safe Environment Training

  • Initial Certification: Complete the mandatory 3-hour VIRTUS® "Protecting God’s Children" awareness session. This training equips adults to recognize, prevent, and report child abuse and maintain safe boundaries.

  • Recertification: VIRTUS® certification is valid for 4 years. To remain compliant, volunteers must complete a 1.5-hour "Keeping the Promise Alive" recertification class or an approved Archdiocese recertification module prior to expiration.

  • Documentation: Keep your original VIRTUS® certificate for your records and submit a copy to the school office.

2. Archdiocesan Background Screening (Fingerprinting)

  • In addition to VIRTUS® training, all adult volunteers must undergo a background check via Live Scan fingerprinting registered specifically through the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

  • Note: Prior fingerprinting from other organizations (such as state agencies or public schools) cannot be transferred under state privacy laws.

How to Get Started

  1. Find a VIRTUS® Session: Visit the VIRTUS® Online Registration portal, select "Los Angeles (Archdiocese)" as your organization, and register for an upcoming session hosted at our school or neighboring parishes.

  2. Schedule Fingerprinting: Check our weekly school newsletter or contact the main office for upcoming Archdiocese-hosted fingerprinting dates on campus, or request a Live Scan form to visit an authorized local site.

  3. Submit Your Documents: Once both VIRTUS® training and fingerprint clearance are complete, turn in your certificate copy and volunteer registration form to the school office.

Thank you for your commitment to keeping our children safe and for giving your time to support our school family! If you have any questions or need assistance registering, please contact the school office.
